After the Seizure at “Celtic Pets”

2. February 2008

What is going on ? Why? Why? Why?
***************************************************************************
Hi, we are the neighbours and like most of you, we have also a couple of questions. At the moment, we don’t state all our infos in detail to the public, because we don’t want to jeopardize the investigation. Our only intention was to rescue this animals and Justice, that something like this never ever happen again.

We addressed our Complaint in December 2006 the first time, mentioned again in May 2007, than made a Formal Complaint to the SPCA in August 2007 and with the help from the PI at the 11. October 2007, and more were addressed to responsible authorities….

Why did it took so long to rescue this animals? Why we had to address our complaints to so many places? Why it seemed that nobody believed us? Why nobody asked us for more details? Why we had to hear always the explanation of “neighbour-dispute”? We would understand this “excuse” once, but why again and again? We had to realize, that no one from the responsible authorities believed us, we needed a truthful proof, we hired a Private Investigator. He placed the camera and the operators of Celtic Pets gave the proof. The outcome of the PI-Investigation and the video-surveillance is not in question at all. He shouldn’t address this Case to the “world”, that’s all was went wrong! He even lowered his rate for the best interest of this animals!!!

Why was our proof of Neglect in October 2007 not enough?…..it shows more than 90 hours of neglect!

Why started the investigation in October, and not ended than right-away?

Why some of the SPCA’s tried to work with the founder of Celtic Pets, Zonda MacIsaac for Kennel-Improvements, when the Complaints and the proof was about Neglect?

We couldn’t believe, we can not understand! We went further, addressed this to other responsible authorities…still hoped for Relief and for Justice!

Why had the animals so long to suffer and some of them had to die? Why we had to witness this so long, that our hearts are broken and our minds still can hear the cries?

We truly hope and believe, Justice will find all of the answers. The responsible people have to face responsibility, have to explain, will take their hats and let their chairs to people who really care and help.

Something went wrong, very wrong….and everyone who cares for the animals and this Cases would like to know.

By reading all of the news-articles, concerns and comments, we see a dark Cloud is hanging over the SPCA. Yes, our Question-mark is also big, but we would like to mention about the great work of SPCA-Cruelty-Officers. In January 2008, we had the pleasure to get to know Sean Kelly. A great guy, who deserves credit for saving animals, unselfish & with big engagement! We witnessed the Seizure on 2. February 2008 and it was a relief to see how this Officers did everything to bring this animals out of this horror with patience and kindness. We would like to take our hats from this Rescuer, which hopefully don’t get under the shade of the hanging Cloud. On our long way, we had supporters, who tried to help. Some of them have already spoken out…thanks to the Ladies from the SPCA Branch Antigonish. Others will hopefully come to word, when the Government look into the whole Case. Thanks to all who tried to help!!!

Thanks for listening and caring and keeping up the questions….and with all your sympathy for the animals bringing hopefully the Law to change and Justice to find its way.

Guido & Doris, the neighbours, still concerned, but also relieved

I am so happy you continue to support the animals who for the most part are still struggling to do better. I have read the many chat lines and there are still challenges they experience because of the neglect and abuse. I still however scratch my head at why it took so long and why the NS SPCA insist on saying that they did everything in their power. I complained two years ago and I know 6 other people did. Why was Alice and Zonda protected??? Just asking a simple question. I also find it very frustrating that I have yet to hear back from The Town of Port Hawkesbury, The RCMP, The Premiere's office and the Minister's office. I think an acknowledgement letter at best would have been appropriate. A reporter contacted me this week indicating that the NS SPCA is wanting to remove the director and close the Antigonish Branch. Can this be true and if so what on earth could these woman have done to deserve this other than speak the truth. I am so disgusted and disappointed in the attitudes and ignorance of some people. Again, I sympathize with the people who have given so much of their time to care for the animals every day. They as well as the neighbours are the real heroes.

To Guido and Doris Scharfenburg,

I want to extend my personal apologies to both of you. You have gone above and beyond to help endthe suffering of those poor animals. You never gave up inspite of all the obstacles thrown in your path. You are the TRUE rescuers.

I am ashamed to admit that I was one of those supporters who, unaware of the real truth, not only believed but publicly supported Zonda in her effort to discredit you and hide the truth. I was the original poster of the Plea for Celtic Pets on the Kijiji Forum. Had I known then what I know now, my voice and my efforts would have been focused in the same direction yours had been all those long months.

Each and every one of those animals and all who love and care for not only them but all animals owe you both a debt of gratitude. Without you the horror would have continued and the outcome would have been even more sickening.

You have my utmost respect and appreciation for everything you have done. And as for apologizing for the language barrier......animals understand love, caring and compassion, they speak your language.

With sincere respect and appreciation,
Janet Patterson

Have just finished reading your blog.
And I to think it is sad that your concerns and reports weren't taken serious at the start and animals had to go through so much more suffering because Zonda and Alice were so trusted by everyone. I thought Zonda was doing great work after looking at her site, Celtic Pets. Now I know sites can be deceiving. I think we should all be glad you didn't give up and truly hope the seized animals will get the loving homes they deserve.
I am sure if the they could talk they would thank you from the bottom of their hearts.

Please copy and paste the above link see this story about the Antigonish SPCA who criticized the provincial SPCA on the rescue at Celtic Pets. The NS SPCA KNEW about the neglect at Celtic pets FOUR YEARS AGO and did NOTHING. As punishment for speaking out the NS SPCA tried to shut down the Antigonish SPCA branch! What kind of god damn criminals are in charge at the NS SPCA?

I just wanted to say thank you for not giving up and sticking to your convictions despite people not listening to your concerns. You went a step beyond by taking action by hiring the PI.

I was one of the many who received Zonda's plea via E-mail, and I remember thinking "boy what horrible neighbours Zonda has and how could they do such a thing, when she was doing such good work. Oh, how fooled we all were :(

I can't imagine some of the things you must have seen and had to suffer through knowing what was "really" going on.

Thanks to you, the animals are now safe, albeit too late for some. I'm sorry for what you had to go through, and again, I thank you for your compassion and perseverance!

All the best!

What is going on and have charges been laid yet on the true criminals? I speak of the NS SPCA President and past president. They don't even have a legal board as far as I know and better yet do what they want, when they want to. Man these people can't possibly have a conscience or was there a little something in it for them????
